Infections
There are a few types of infections which can have a great impact on your sperm count and quality. The best way to avoid them is to simply practice safe sex by using condoms. Here is some info on what to avoid..if you know what’s good for your sperm and health.
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
Gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, warts…none of these are fun. They are painful and can affect your fertility. If left untreated STIs like gonorrhea and chlamydia can cause blockages in the sperm tubes preventing sperm leaving the testicles (where they are produced).
The scary part is that some STIs like chlamydia may not show any symptoms but you can be a carrier and the infection will still be damaging to your fertility. This is why wearing condoms, especially with new partners or when you are having sex with multiple partners makes sense.\
Mumps
Mumps is a viral infection that is most dangerous in adult men but can be caught at any stage.
The mumps virus can totally destroy the tubes that make sperm and permanently stop sperm production.
It’s important to get vaccinated against the mumps. If you don’t know whether you have been, ask your family doctor or you parents. If you missed out you can be vaccinated at any time.
